For many years I have been concerned with the well-being of young professional persons which is why I work in a voluntary capacity as a career counsellor in several schools in Switzerland and Germany. In my group and single sessions, I observe repeatedly the dated methods and lack of passion adolescents from the age of 15 are counselled. Even the capable career advisors cater to an expiring system because they themselves are overwhelmed by the fourth industrial revolution or even worse, they don’t even have it on their radar. Furthermore, the majority of today’s career guidance is not willing or not able to accept and to understand the new everyday realities and points of view of adolescents or young adults. It is inevitable that such counselling, which ignores those two fundamental aspects, leads to subpar or even inadequate results. Career guidance, especially for adolescents and young adults, needs desperately an update.

Kinder, die heute zur Welt kommen, werden Jobs haben, die es noch nicht gibt und in einer Welt leben, deren zivilisatorische Struktur noch nicht feststeht. Sicher ist nur, dass wir in einer Welt von Arbeit 4.0 und Industrie 4.0 leben werden und flexible, offene, mutige, differenziert denkende, unabhängige und kreative Persönlichkeiten erziehen müssen, die den Anforderungen der Zukunft gewachsen sind.
